Religion and Worldviews

At St Barnabas, RW enables children to explore and develop their understanding of various religious (and non-religious) worldviews, communities, beliefs and interpretations of life. 

During RW, children investigate, think theologically and reflect on the fundamental questions of life. RW learning journeys start with a ‘hook’ lesson introducing the ‘Big’ question for the term. They build upon knowledge, skills and concepts throughout the unit, as well as using their prior knowledge, before answering and reflecting on the question, thinking about what it might mean to them or to a believer. They will develop the skills to analyse, interpret and apply religious texts, recognise that faith is a particular way of understanding and responding to God and the world. They will also look at things from a variety of different perspectives and viewpoints to understand how things can be viewed differently depending upon a person’s worldview.

As well as this, children will analyse and explain the varied nature and traditions of religious and non-religious communities and worldviews, including their daily life. They will reflect critically on areas of shared beliefs and practices between and within different faiths and develop a respect for all faiths and worldviews on their spiritual journey. Our RW curriculum ensures that the children learn about a diverse range of views and beliefs within and across religions.

We encourage children to develop a reflective spirituality, which will give them the resilience, resourcefulness and empathy to face the challenges of a changing world.
