At St Barnabas, we teach children from Reception through to Year 6 how to Keep Safe.

NSPCC Speak Out Stay Safe

On Thursday 16th November, children in Year 1 – Year 6 will take part in our NSPCC Speak Out Stay Safe virtual assembly. There will be a KS1 specific assembly followed by a KS2 specific session.

It helps children understand:

  • abuse in all its forms and how to recognise signs of abuse
  • that abuse is never a child’s fault and they have the right to be safe
  • where to get help and the sources of help available to them

We use ‘Buddy’ who is a speech bubble mascot and encourage children to speak out if they have any worries.

Children’s rights

The assembly explains that all children have the right to speak out and have their views taken seriously, be kept safe and get help when they need it.

Sack of worries
We talk about the types of worries a child might have. We use bricks to represent worries and put them in the sack. We then use the sack of worries to talk about safe adults a child could talk to. With each example, a brick is removed.

We also ensure that all children have a safe and trusted adult who they can speak to. 

Following the assemblies, all classes will take part in a further lesson to reinforce these important messages.
