Our Values: Ambition, Compassion and Resilience
Our Vision: Let Your Light Shine - Matthew 5:16
Modern Foreign Language
At St Barnabas, we teach French from Year 1 through to Year 6. As a school, we use the Language Angels scheme of work to ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will excite and inspire our children through a wide variety of themes. All pupils will be expected to achieve their full potential by encouraging high expectations and excellent standards in their foreign language learning – the ultimate aim being that pupils will feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2. The four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing will be taught and all necessary grammar will be covered in an age-appropriate way across the curriculum. At St Barnabas, we want all our pupils to develop a genuine interest and a passion for modern foreign language. Learning a second language will offer pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identify and develop a deeper understanding of other culture and the world around them.
