A warm welcome to Little Stars and Little Rockets Nursery, where your children come to shine! We aim to help children become curious, confident and passionate learners. Our Little Rockets room welcomes 2 year olds, and our Little Stars room accommodates 3-4 year olds.
Miss Duparcq, Miss Scales and Mrs Rogers (Nursery Teachers), plus our wonderful Teaching Assistant Mrs Serle, are dedicated to giving your children the best possible start to their education. We develop strong relationships and truly get to know each individual child. We are passionate about offering a broad curriculum which ignites a love of learning and allows each child to feel valued and to succeed. We offer a range of rich, exciting learning opportunities, inside and outside, and support children to develop the foundations they need for a successful lifelong learning journey.

Note Forest School is on a Monday and Thursday morning and this will start once all the children have settled fully into Little Stars and Little Rockets.

Term 1 Gallery
We have had a fabulous start to the year. Our returners have settled back into nursery life and we have welcomed some lovely new friends! We have been focussing on ‘All about me’ and getting to know eachother, our environment, and the St B’s way! We have read ‘Lulus first day’ and have used different arts and crafts to make our self portraits, our families, our homes and our own personal interests. We read ‘The colour monster’ and explored our feelings, made our own colour monsters and shared our hopes and dreams for the year. Alongside this our topic has been ‘Awesome Autumn’ where we have focussed on the changing of the season. We have looked at and explored autumnal colours, been on autumn walks and spotted signs of autumn, made wind tells and flew these outside! We have made pumpkin soup and apple crumble after reading ‘Pumpkin Soup’ – the perfect autumn warmers. We read ‘Leaf Man’ and enjoyed our trips to the forest to collect natural items to make our own and enjoyed retelling and making up our very own Leaf Man stories.

Term 2 Gallery
Such an amazing term! It has been a busy one. This term our topic was ‘Nursery Rhymes’ so we have been immersed in all the ones we know and love, while learning new ones too! We started off with ‘twinkle twinkle little star’.
The children have been performing this in our puppet theatre and music stage, printing stars with paint and discussing what we see in the night sky!
We looked at Van Gogh the starry night and recreated this using our fingers to make the swirls.
We explored a sensory fireworks tray with all things light, shine and colours and shared our own experiences of seeing them. We made our own fireworks by using our fine motor skills to thread pipe cleaners.
In forest school we built a bonfire together and sat round it to sing some campfire songs. We then toasted our leaf marshmallows! We have been reading ‘bears in the night’! We have retold the story using prepositional language , acted it out in the garden, story mapped it, made playdough bears, followed instructions to draw bears, and made bear masks! We used our fine motor skills to catch Incy Wincy spiders, and decorated our own humpty dumpty eggs which we then made ramps to do egg rolling! We have been reading ‘The gingerbread man’ and decorated our own. We have had our role play set up as and Elf Workshop where we have been busy wrapping gifts with wrapping paper to help Father Christmas. We hosted a fabulous Christmas Event where we invited all of our parents in to watch our Christmas song performance followed by lots of lovely activities – making Christmas cards, salt dough decorations, hot chocolate station and gingerbread men!
We are very much looking forward to next term!
Term 3 Gallery
Our topic this term has been ‘Wonderful Winter’ and we have been reading some lovely winter themed stories with beautiful winter illustrations. We started off with Polar Bear Polar Bear where we acted the story out, retelling it in our own ways, and writing our very own version of the story. We have been exploring which other animals live in the snow and have made lots of lovely art work of polar bears, penguins, snowflakes. We then moved on to ‘The Snowy Day’ and spoke about what happens and what we need to wear when its cold. We have danced and moved like arctic animals and really enjoyed the ‘penguin dance’. We have also explored and discussed Chinese New Year and how this is celebrated. We’ve read the story of the great race – used puppets to retell this and acted it out too! We have made dragon masks and have done some traditional dragon dancing. We have made lanterns, looked at Chinese writing and numbers, role played a Chinese food cafe and taste tested noodles!

Term 4 Gallery
Our topic this term has been superheroes!
We started the term off looking at ‘People who help us’. We had a doctors surgery role play. Little stars Doctors and nurses were on hand to bandage up limbs, fix heads and give injections! We made appointments for follow up visits and explored who we would ring in an emergency. We also had a visit from St John’s Ambulance… Mrs Serle!! The children asked her lots of questions, they were very intrigued about her uniform and wanted her to bandage them all up! We had lots of broken bones, sore heads and cut fingers! We have been looking into and learning about different people who help us. We have been discussing dentists, and sequencing how to brush our teeth. We have been looking at different emergency vehicles and making marks with their wheels. We have been discussing healthy foods and how we can look after our bodies as we read the book Avocado Baby. We talked about food that makes us healthy and grow big and strong. We mashed avocado together taking turns to use the fork. We even tried some avocado on crackers!
We have been reading ‘Supertato’ and used a small world tray to retell the story, we have been making superhero masks, making jelly to catch the evil pea, finding peas in their pods and making our very own super veggies!
For world book day we were visited by Leoni Lord – a fantastic Author and Illustrator. She explained what her job is and then read one of her books to us “Grotti”. She then showed us how to draw Grotti and the children followed her step by step instructions. We then had the opportunity to ask her any questions.
We are very much looking forward to next term!
Term 5 Gallery
We’ve been looking at growing this term and have been very busy in the garden! We read the texts ‘A Tiny Seed’ and ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ and have planted our own sunflowers, chopped and explored vegetables, as well as digging up potatoes in the soil! We also looked at the Very Hungry Caterpillar and watched our very own caterpillars grow in class. We learned the life cycle of egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly and performed this as a simple dance. Finally we’ve been looking at how we have grown and have been exploring babies, played ‘guess the baby’ with our baby photos and have looked at what we can do now as big pre-school children!
Next term we’ll be exploring all things transport, as well as participating in Sports Day and saying goodbye to our school leavers.
